Little house made of wood white green

DIY wood and nails

Hello, my friend, I am so happy to see you on my DIY blog Kalamondin Design. If you like what you see subscribe my blog and share about those little houses with your friends! I'll be so happy to hear your feedback! But let's take a look how you may do a little house like this.

Wood Scrap
A the beginning you need to find a wood scrap which will be good for your idea. I got a lot of wood scrap like this one because during palette demolition some boards gonna broke. This is half of board as you may see with bark. I always remove bark but soon I'll try to do a little house with a bark roof. But not today 😉

Wood scrap after cleaning
I removed the bark and use sandpaper 100 to polished all sides of wood, next I used sandpaper 220 to finish the polishing. I did that before cutting because the second part of wood I will use later to make another little house.

Wood scrap after cut
I cut the wood into two parts to make smaller house than before ( no. 2 and no. 3 ). This one will be similar to little house no. 1

Wood scrap after polishing
I polished wood once again by sandpaper 220 and now it is ready to base paint.

Wood scrap after painting
As you may see I used a teak mordant to paint wood. After I made the first little house I was using ebony mordant and wenge. I think that Teak is much better because the wood looks more natural. It is bright and look fresh - I like it a lot 😆

Little house after painting
I made blue windows by brush 6. As you may see this time I didn't mark the places for frames. I decided that without marking a little house will look more folk and truly handmade. I'm not saying that marking places for windows frames on little houses are bad. It just looks different, it's another effect. I think that in future I will make windows with marking but now I'm trying to find ways to make different effects. I am learning.

Little house after sandpapering
I made green doors. For the first time, I used this color. What do you think about it? I think that this color is fabulous! After this step, I decided that my next little house will be some kind of seaside house. I love this color! Of course, after painting, I had to polish it by sandpaper to give an effect of older. At first, I used sandpaper 100, next 220.
Little house no. 4

Little house
Last but not least, I put nails for the chimneys onto a roof and lamp up to the doors. My first little house has only one chimney so I decided this time to make two of them. I'm trying to make new things and change something from time to time. Unfortunately, I couldn't find nails with a lot of rust (but now I'm trying to make rust on nails by myself 😈)If it will look bad so what? 😉 I've made it from wood scrap so I didn't pay for it 😜

Little house left side
This is how a little house no. 4 finally looks. I am happy with it. It looks "fresh and funky".

Little house made of wood scrap

Little house before and after

Hello, my friend! I'm happy to see you here again, let's take a look how I made another little house! If you like my blog DIY Kalamondin Design please subscribe it!

Wood Scrap
Here you have a piece of wood scrap which I used. As you may see it is again a piece of wood with bark so I used a chisel to remove it as before in Little house no 2 and Little house no 1. The method of doing it is almost the same. The only difference is the shape and used colors. This time wood is asymmetric which was a little problem for me to invent what kind of building it might be.

Cleaning wood scrap

Based painted wood scrap
This time to paint a wood scrap I used an ebony mordant. I like it because this is rare kind of wood and I usually use white or gray colors. Ebony mordant also gives to wood an old look. To paint "an elevation" I used white color. Black and white looks nice isn't it?

Painted wood scrap
I painted it two times with white acrylic paint. I didn't paint it as usual, along with the jars. I was "taping". You may see on picture "Painted wood scrap" that there is a lamb structure.

Polished wood scrap
After painting, I polished wood by sandpaper 220. Ebony mordant looks like it would be used and touched for many years. That is the effect which I like.

Marking wood scrap
As you may see the wood scrap is asymmetric so I had to think what kind of house I may do. I decided to do it in farm style. Kind of place for animals (right side) with utility room (left side). To mark places for windows I again used painting tape which I cut into small pieces.

Painting details of little house
To make the windows I used gray color. I was thinking that the effect will be different 😆 Was a little insipid so I changed the windows to blue and make dark gray frames. It makes a better contrast and now it looks better.

Little house without chimney
At the end of this project are chimneys. I didn't know to make one or more. I decided to two of them because as I said before it supposes to be a farmhouse so one chimney is for animal space and one for the utility room. I found in my nails one long with a lot of rust which I wanted to use. As you may see it is curved. I don't know what you think about it, but I like it a lot. I don't know why maybe because it gives a look of used, little messy.

Hi! If you are again here I suppose that you like my things 👏 If it's so please subscribe my blog DIY Kalamondin Design,  share my posts and leave me feedback 👇😈

Little house before and after

As you can see I've made another wood little house from scrap I had. I was writing in the previous post that I got a lot of wood scrap so things like this will be here very often. I decided to use this wood scrap because the shape was ideal for little house, I was doing it in the evening and I didn't want to be loud because of using the saw.  I got scale in centimeters on my workbench so you may see how "big" is that house. About 10 cm long and 6 cm high. Quite big :) But that was an idea, to give me a chance to make a lot of small things from my scrap. My first little house was teak color, I decided to use another mordant which I have and don't use very often - wenge. It's darker so when I was polishing by sandpaper it gives stronger effect, but I'm happy with that. It looks like it would have 50 years 😏

A piece of scrap

Scrap after the first remake

I again used the chisel to remove a bark. It's very effective way, I recommend it. I was wondering if do not leave the bark on this piece of wood but after my first little house I wanted to make something nice and does not experiment.

Wood after sandpaper

As usual, I polished wood very well to have a sure that my daughter will not hurt herself during play. Also, it looks better.

Wood after painting

You can see now wenge paint on wood, it looks very nice. It is only one covering that's why the wood texture is very easy to see. I love this effect and I hate when wood is fully covered by paint. I truly don't know why people paint wood by oil paints and cover the structure. If they don't want to see wood they suppose to use plastic or something else. Wood is beautiful so we suppose to show it as much as we can.

Wenge mordant

Little house after yellow paint

I got the plan to paint it on yellow but I was not sure if it will be looking good. I am not a professional painter and I don't have a designer eye to create in my mind how it will be looking after... But to be honest, in reality, it's not so bad ☺

Little house after polishing

You need to work on this project with sandpaper very often. I've polished the roof of the little house, but I've done it with the yellow paint too. The structure of wood after the painting is not velvet.I wanted to make it nice to touch and look slippery. That's why the polishing is so important. If you will use sandpaper to much you will remove paint from wood. I didn't want to do this, only in a few places so you need to plan where touch the wood stronger.

Marking places for windows

I cut the painting tape on small but long pieces and mark windows. I didn't mark the doors, I'm just making them on freestyle - a little madness 😆

Painting windows on little house

I used gray paint. I want to use different colors as often as possible so sometimes it might look a little creepy but whatever, maybe I will learn someday how to make my wood scrap nice and combine the colors.

Little house almost ready

I removed the painting tape so there were free spaces between the "windows". You may read upper than I got a problem with combining the colors. Now you can see it. I thought that it looks a little to fuzzily. So simple move - make frames of windows ☺So I made black frames and black doors. It was no to a good move. Because now the little house was too dark for me. Again change the color...

Little house finally painted

As you can see the doors and frames of windows are blue ☺Horray I made a decision and get final colors! And to be honest, I think that it was the toughest step in this project. Why? Because most of the peoples will not look how good is the wood polished, you will not feel that because you will not touch this wood. The colors are visible at the first moment so it is important to choose it well. I'm learning colors so maybe in future, you will see better creations.

Little house no. 2
The last but not least move is to make chimneys of the little house. I again used old nails the from the wooden palette. I drilled holes by drill size 2,5, then put the nails by rubber hammer. I didn't want to remove rust from nails so I decided to use the rubber hammer. I got one so why not, sometimes I need to use it 😝

Oh I forgot, nail above the door it is a lamp 😆

I have hope that you like it, if yes please subscribe and share, for sure this is not the end. I got a lot of wood scrap.
Please leave me some comment if you like, if you don't like, maybe you will give me some idea what kind of colors I suppose to use. As I said a got a lot of scraps so for 100% I will use your idea.

Stay in peace, greetings and thank you for your precious time! See ya!!

Little house made of wood scrap - white

My wife often says to me " Why you keep this scrap on the balcony, you suppose to throw it out, you don't need this, you will do nothing with it." The truth is that I don't like to throw things away, especially if I think that I can use something. Also, the truth is that I have a lot of wood scrap after palette disassemble and I was doing nothing with it. My wife motivates me so I decided to look what I got there and try to do something with it.

The Internet is full of creative ideas for everything. I started to look for something on Pinterest and then I found that... A Little house made of wood. My first thought was - this is weird, a waste of time, more painting than woodworking. But I saw one little house, second little house, third little house, little house under the sea, boats etc. I looked at my wood scrap and I thought - damn, my wood scrap fits perfect to do things like that. And you know what? I made my first little house, and damn I'm proud of it :D I didn't expect that it will be so much woodwork. And the pleasant woodwork because without electrical tools. A lot of cleaning by sandpaper, using a chisel to align the surface, even after painting I was using the sandpaper to make it older,  so it was not so bad. I like to do things like precise cleaning by sandpaper, it learns patience and perseverance to strive for perfection. You can sit down and focus on only one thing. You may forget about the stressful day, incidents on the production environment (I'm IT manager) or audit. There is just piece of wood and you :)

But back to the topic. As I said I don't like to throw things away so I decided to make a little house like I have found. I chose one piece of wood scrap which was ok for me and I think that this is a good idea to show at Kalamondin Design.

Here you can see before and after piece of wood scrap living time :)

Wood scrap before, little house after

At the beginning, as I said before, was work with sandpaper and chisel. At first, I aligned the piece of wood. Inch by inch to make it soft as it's possible because my daughter like to play with things I made. As you see the wood scrap have house shape so I didn't have to create it. Just make it soft.

Wood scrap designed for little house

After sandpapering was time to paint. This is element about I was afraid.  To be honest I can't paint. I don't know how to do it and I have never got skills to do it. I have hope that soon my kids will do it for me ;) But now I had to. maybe I will learn with some time and also in this example it was no difficulty.
1. all of the surface o little house I painted with base - teak color.
2. I painted the front of the little house by white acrylic color two times, to have a good cover of teak. As you can see I left the roof.

Based painted wood scrap

When the paint was dry I start to mark places for windows of the little house. I cut the painting tape for small pieces and stick to the wood.

Little house with marked places for windows

To do this I used blue acrylic paint. As you can see there are red doors. I saw an idea like this on Pinterest and I thought that it will look fresher if there will be doors instead of another window.

Finally painted little house

Nails for chimney

I wanted to make two chimneys, but after make first of them I decided to leave it like this. I made it of old nails which I had from the palette. To make a nice effect of the little house I chose with a lot of rust.
I drilled a small hole in the roof of the little house and I stuck a nail with the rubber hammer. As you may read in the card about us my workbench is on the balcony and it was 11 pm so I tried to be quiet.

Little house made of wood scrap

As you can see the effect I quite nice, the little house looks good on my shelf with wooden figurines. I think that it will be not the only one little house in my portfolio because I got a lot of scraps;P
Little house - Kalamondin

I recommend to you use your wood scrap and do something with it. Don't throw it away, it may be a creative challenge for your brain to do something, not necessarily a little house :)
